Willmar's only true coffeehouse LuLu Beans is changing ownership but not spirit after six blossoming years in business. Cindy Swenson converted the old house at 1029 1st Street into a coffee spurting, baked good hurtling Mecca of kick your feet back comfort and peacefulness. After more than five years of invested heart and soul, Lulu Beans now seems as if it has always been gifting 1st street with it's presence.
As of May 1st, 2006, the same coffeehouse we've all grown to love, was taken over by Laure Fladeboe, a native to the area who plans to maintain the same cozy, welcoming atmosphere while keeping up to date with the latest trends.
Right now the shop offers several cozy rooms with comfy couches and chairs, as well as tables for studying or working. Seasonal amenities include seating around a warm indoor fireplace and an outdoor furnace for beautiful fall and winter evenings.
There are also accommodations for summer, including air conditioning and a lovely outdoor patio with tables and chairs perfect for sun soaking.
Several different coffees are always on offer, including decaf varieties, fair trade and organic, flavored and our oh-so-popular Velvet Hammer. Hot and cold espresso drinks, teas and smoothies are also available. There are excellent baked goods made fresh daily and several refreshing summer salads and wraps have just joined the menu with the already existing variety of sandwiches. The delicious soups will return when the hot summer sun leaves us.
LuLu Beans offers three rooms with large tables for reservations. All groups are welcome for meetings, small parties, baby showers, or whatever one fancies. LuLu Beans will continue to showcase artists and would love to emphasize talent found in this area. Be sure to ask us what is on the calendar for entertainment!
